It usually happens under high load – so while loading lots of textures in games for example but it is quite intermittent – sometimes it’ll happen 3 times in an afternoon sometimes not at all so is hard to predict. How can I diagnose this and what can I do to fix it? This right hurrr.. Thank, that’s helpful. I tried re-seating RAM I only have 1 stick so can’t test different modules separately.
I also ran Windows’ built in memory test and found no errors, is that sufficient? I’ll post back if I see the error again. You should scan the dump files. There are handy links to them, mostly by nirsoft. It will read the error codes and suggest, if not at least point out the problem. Since it’s a fresh build, you should make sure you’ve installed the motherboard software, as well as updated all drivers. The since it’s Windows, update all the things. It might take a few hours. I’ll see whether the motherboard software updates anything.
Device manager only shows missing drivers for “SM Bus controller” everything else seems to be working but I didn’t check for updates on all of them. Will let you know if those do the job. Thanks for your help so far! Hey Nocagent, I had some time to do some gaming again and just got another blue screen so I guess it wasn’t the motherboard drivers.
What can I try next? Did you use the mini dump viewers? When you BSOD, it reads the system error and will tell you where the issue is. Here’s what it gave me: Yeah, that’s what I used. Here’s a screen shot. Which Nirsoft do you mean? Can you link me directly to the one I need? Or quote the thing I need to follow? Lots of the answers about that bsod recommended a memtest so I ran that for about 40mins and it didn’t reveal any errors. If you need any particular info that it isn’t currently showing, let me know and I’ll post a screenshot of that.
Yeah, I suppose that would correlate with the crashes in the middle of gaming. I figured that the new processor would probably use less juice than the old which was a Core 2 Quad and that therefore I’d be ok with W. Is there a way to check what the load is?
I could spin up a game and see what power is being used and make a guess from there. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. All rights reserved.
